After getting breakfast and fuel got away about 10am. First stop Kilkenny. On the way to Kilkenny we came through Inistioge. A very picturesque village but I was impressed by the old bridge over the river. We stopped to have a look, the river looks like a perfect spot for fly fishing, a nice old bridge with the obligatory church ruins on the bank of the river. It is great the way while driving through Ireland you come across heaps of these places and many historical sites. This is probably why it takes hours to get anywhere. We got stuck in an Irish traffic jam on the road, the farmer was moving his cows between paddocks and had to heard them down the road. I have been to Ireland several times but have never been to Kilkenny. We only stopped for lunch but I was very impressed. Next time in Ireland I would like to do a few days here. They have a fantastic Castle, right next to the centre of town. We had a walk around the outside but did not have time to go in. We had a bit of a wander around the town. Karen scored a great Aran wool jumper for a very good price. We had lunch at the Left Bank Hotel, a very nice hotel across the road from the Castle. An interesting item on the bar was they actually had ceiling fans ( you don't really see them in Ireland or at least I haven't) and they were powered by a pulley system around the roof. We stayed at Galway overnight and it was wet, cold and miserable when we arrived. Got a hotel right in the square in the centre of the city. Headed out to sample the local bars and feed. Early night with a big drive around Connemara tomorrow.
