So we arrived in raglan yesterday. Raglan is a surf town on the west coast of the north island, which seems to be very chilled like most surf towns. We stayed in a hostel that is in the rainforest, all covered by trees and very Eco friendly. We went surfing as soon as we went in. Clare got a body board and I got a surf board. It was cool but I couldn't paddle past the break because the waves were pretty strong, big and constant. The good thing is I haven't forgotten how to surf! I was still able to stand up but I just had to surf the White water so I couldn't go that long :( kinda can't wait to practice more. Around the hostel at night you can see loads of Glow Worms!! I was totally convinced they were only a toy, but no, they are real! They are pretty cool looking. At first they look like pairs of eyes but then you start to see hundreds, very cool looking. Today we are leaving raglan and heading to the Waitomo caves. You can do all these different tours into them where you get to absail, swim and climb but they are all so expensive :( so unfortunately I will have to go for the free option of walks around the town. After we are going to Maketu where we will stay with a Maori tribe. They are going to feed us and do a cultural night with us when we learn the dances and all the males get to learn the haka which will be cool. We also are getting to sleep the traditional way, on the floor!! Can't wait :)
