Friday 16th June
Berri Caravan Park was just lovely and was surrounded by well kept gardens, lots of rose gardens, and great amenities. It was also walking distance to the town, and local pub, so it was a perfect spot for us.
A particular favourite was River Jack's Café at the Tourist Centre. It is overlooking the river with majestic red river gums along the banks. A favourite place for us each morning.
But there was a LOT of washing to be done - and it's raining! Ah well chuck it in the dryer and we can't do much else because of the rain.
Saturday 17th June
A sunny day today and it was a very leisurely sleep in - warm and cosy overnight. We walked up for our obligatory coffee along the river, lunch then a drive out to Banrock Station Winery. Such an amazing place, as the philosophy is to make good wine, whilst also preserving the environment, particularly the wetland area in this unique part of the world.
Along the river walk there is a beautiful memorial to Jimmy James who was a very experienced aboriginal tracker. His expertise was used on numerous occasions by the South Australian Police and he was instrumental in saving many lives, and tracked many criminals.
Sunday 18th June
A long, lazy morning. It is very, very misty and a heavy dew overnight. Everything was wet, including chairs, shoes, etc which were under the awning. It weas indeed a very "shivvery" morning. Brrrrr!!!
Coffee at the pub as River Jack's café was packed.
We had a drive into Renmark and walked along the river as it now warmed up a little. We browsed around the shops and the timber showroom. Had a lovely long chat to the owner.
We then headed to Ruston's Roses for a delicious Thai lunch and wine. It is a lovely spot for lunch, and the fire was an added bonus. Then on to Mallee Winery and purchased a gift box for a friend plus a 2 litre plastic container of port for $12.
Home then to pack up and sit in the sun which finally came out. A simple dinner of chicken, avocado, olives and toast for dinner.
Packed morning tea and lunch for the next day and done by 7pm!
