Macklen's Euro Trip
Hi! Ok so yesterday was a rainy one - quite unusual for the time of year here they say...so I went to the National Archeological Musuem to see more artifacts from the Islands and Athens...Olympia too. They had some really cool exhibitions...it was free the day I went because of some national holiday - so yay! But they had different hours than I had listed in my travel book - so I was kicked out before I could finish looking at the beautiful things...all is well though. I went to a market to get some food for snacks, etc...and some soap.
I'm already out of my soap because I use it for everything: shampoo, body wash, and "laundry". So I should be set now on soap!
Yesterday I went to a local cafe for dinner (a really good club sandwich and chips...aaannnddd a milk shake...(I had to get my daily ice cream!) The cafe had a big t.v. with the world cup on...and the next game was perfectly the USA vs. Czech Republic. I don't think we won - I left to go to a theatre production.
June and July in Athens is the Athens Festival where all over the city they stage dance, opera, voice, and theatre productions. Most of them are in the Theatre on the Acropolis hill - which would have been beautiful to see...but my trip ends before the next performace is there. But, anyways, I saw an interesting dance/performance art piece from France last night. I was a bit confused...but I think it was a social commentary on daily life. The stage was set up with rows of thin metal sheets and the performers came out in tandem in the spaces between the metal sheets and did an "action"...either eating a piece of fruit, thowing a bucket of dirt/rocks onto the stage, fighting with eachother, etc...all kinds of things. All the while there was a wind machine going on, shaking the metal sheets, and the actors/dancers. It was really interesting...
Then today I got a late start, had breakfast at the hostel, then off to the Plaka Market where there are all kinds of little shops, and small roads to meander through. It rained today again...so it was nice to dart in and out of the shops! I filled my afternoon with errands...funny, errands on vacation! Post office, bookstore (for a new reading book and a travel book on Spain - I did some research to find a local bookstore with an English Language section!) Then I put my pictures onto a CD from my memory card...cheaper that way instead of buying a new memory card.
Now I'm getting ready to go out to dinner with two girls from my room (both from LA) and then to another threatre production. Then to bed, beacuse i go to Mykonos Island tomorrow morning!
Love, love!
