After breakfast, those who opted to go up to Jungfrau Mountain (the peak is at 4,158 metres) or halfway at Kleine Scheidegg (2,061 metres) made our way by foot from the campsite to the train station.
We chose to go all the way up to Jungfraujoch, touted to be the "Top of Europe" at 3,454 metres. The cost to go up: 142 Swiss Francs (approximately RM600+). Yes it is a bit costly but I figured, I have gone all the way to Switzerland, it'd be a waste to not go up and play with snow!
The scenic train ride takes about one and a half hours including changing trains at Kleine Scheidegg. We arrived at Jungfraujoch at around 12.30pm.
First place we went to was the Ice Palace, where there were many ice sculptures; including one of the infamous squirrel with the acorn from Ice Age "frozen" in time. Haha!
Then we went to the Plateau where I finally had my first chance in my life to touch snow. It wasn't as cold as I expected (it was about 5 degrees) probably because the sun was high up. Had a lot of fun taking photos with the Jungfrau peak and the Swiss Alps on the background.
After a quick lunch, we headed to the Sphinx Observation Terrace (where we took a lift up to 3,571 metres above sea level) for a more higher view of the mountains. The view was magnificent from up there! And they were right about having to wear sunglasses up there - the sun's reflection on the snow is very glaring... I tried to take off my sunnies and I can hardly open my eyes.
After that, we made our way to Snow Fun! We decided to play the Sledges instead of trying skiing and snowboarding which is more expensive. It costs us 15 Swiss Francs for the Sledges for unlimited amount of time - we ended playing for a whole two hours!
From sitting down to doing the 'Superman' pose on sled, we did it all. We might have stayed a lot longer if not for the fact that the Snow Fun zone closes at 5pm and our last train is at 5.45pm! Syukur Alhamdulillah for His grace and blessings for me to experience and enjoy such a beautiful place.
However, my face was sunburt really bad despite wearing SPF 50 sunblock - the area around my eyes is spared though because I was wearing my sunglasses. So I was a panda lookalike!
We arrived back at our campsite around 7.30pm, greeted by the lovely aroma of our dinner: nasi lemak.
It's our final night in Switzerland before heading to our final country for this European tour: France!
