Today we have full our day out in Paris.
However, it took our coach about one and a half hours to reach Central Paris due to traffic jam. Our driver guessed that it is because the French school holidays has just started + we saw an accident on the road.
Our coach dropped us off at Avenue de Champs-Elysees, right in front of the four-storey Louis Vuitton building. We had one and a half hour to roam around to go shopping on the famed street or even walk to Arc de Triomphe, the arc that was built by Napoleon after his triumph.
Then we went to Musee du Parfum (perfume museum) - Fragonard. We were brought for a tour of the place and shown how perfume is made. One thing I learnt: the difference between parfum, eau de parfum (EDP), eau de toilette (EDT) and cologne!
They also have their own Fragonard brand on sale. Most of them went to buy, I didn't buy any though - not a fan of fragrances. However, everyone in our tour group got a little perfume souvenir from them.
Fragonard is just in front of Opera Garnier (The Grand Opera Hall) and Galeries Lafayette (a high end shopping mall owned by the Al-Fayed family).
We drove past the huge Musee du Louvre (and saw the famous pyramid entrance) the and other big buildings in the city.
Then off to Centre Georges Pompidou for lunch - and most of us headed to the nearest Halal KFC. Yes, I had KFC in Paris! :) What I like about it is that it is much less greasy so it does taste better.
After lunch we walked a little to take photos in front of the famous Cathedrale Notre Dame de Paris, a huge church in Paris.
At 5.45pm we made our way to the most iconic landmark, the Eiffel Tower! It was almost surreal to finally see the beautiful architectural work upclose.
Cameras started clicking the moment we came near the tower as our bus parked at the boat ride entrance. Those who opted to go on the Paris river boat cruise by Bateaux Parisiens (€9 - group discount), including myself, boarded the boat at 7pm.
They have multi-lingual commentary as the boat cruises through Paris' Seine River. From there we saw the major buildings like the Notre Dame, Parliament House, the Bastille, the Latin Quarter, the Montmartre, in the one hour boat ride.
We spent the next few hours around the Eiffel Tower, taking photos and buying souvenirs. However, since nightfall is pretty late in Paris in summer (Maghrib is at 9.58pm), we did not get to see the Tower being lit up because our coach left at about 9.30pm. Oh well.
Just about 5 minutes after Eiffel Tower, our bus drove just above the tunnel where Princess Diana and her lover was killed in a car crash. There is a simple monument to remember the tragedy.
Arriving at our campsite at almost 10.45pm, we had dinner (chicken rice!) and called it a day. Our final night in Paris, final night of the tour, final night sleeping in a sleeping bag in a tent!
