Sawat Dii,
Arrived in Ayutthaya yesterday by train, where we met an old Thai School Teacher who wanted to practice his English on us. Soon after arrival first scary moment happened - tuk tuk driver took us to the guest house we had booked to stay in. He was unsure of where he was going and got lost several times on the way. When we got there he wasn't sure if this was the right place as apparently there were 2 guest houses of the same name. Em and Sarah waited with the bags, I went to the house. A guy completely out of his head, eyes like glass owned the place and didn't speak English. He tried to sell me rooms for us in this really run down bit. Even the tuk tuk driver was suprised and led me away saying 'bad man, bad man'. As we were driving off, the 'baddie' jumped into the car and they drove on into a remote bit of town, down a few alleys to a dead end - I thought we were going to be shot - however it was to take us to the previous owners of the guest house for some reason. She luckily told the driver where to go for our guest house. On the way out we got our second fright when a bird was fried as it sat on an electrical cable right outside out hostel. There was a very loud bang and a puff of smoke, which made us all jump. The electricity went down along our strees! Things always come in threes - walking towards town we were accosted by two dogs - there are stray dogs everywhere here. They started by growling at each other, then turned towards us, blocking the path, barking and showing scary teeth! We did a big U shape turn, and walked back up the road. Loads of Thai people came out of their houses and made them scarper however, so we were able to go the way we wanted. I must say considering BG doesn't like dogs, she remained very calm. Hostel is a big step down for hotel. Shower and toilet outside!
