LINDA'S TALES OF TRAVEL AND OTHER CATASTROPHES
On the way to Rome we stopped off at a little town called Ovierto. It was such a quite little town up high on a mountain and I really appreciated seeing something a bit off the tourist track.
Rome was wonderful but overwhelming in such a short time. Seeing the Collosseum appear in the distance was such a surreal experience. To think that something built 2000 years ago is still standing is just amazing and makes you feel an amazing connection to history. On a walking tour of the city we also saw most of the other major sites, ie. Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps...
On day two of Rome we started out early so we could see the Vatican City. Once again it was a very surreal experience being there. After a long wait we eventually got in to see the Sistine Chapel which was as amazing as I thought it would be. Unfortunately the crowds kind of ruined it again...it is hard to have a quite reflection when the guards have to yell out shhhh! and no photos! every few minutes. (Some people just don't understand the concept of shut the hell up and put your camera away for a few minutes! Bloody tourists ha ha.)
That afternoon was spent sitting by the pool and indulging in chocolate ice-cream...mmmm, so good...
