Ko Phi Phi Don
After catching another early we started our journey to Krabi where we would catch the ferry across to Ko Phi Phi. It was a pretty easy ride, we all slept for most of it. We arrived and got dropped off at yet another tourist office and as usual got swamped by people trying to sell us tickets and taxi rides. We knew the score now and told them all no no no, grabbed our map and started walking towards the ferry port where we planned to just buy it direct without any hassel. We started walking in the mid day heat so it was pretty hot, we got a bit lost but ended up seeing a bit of Krabi at the same time so it wasnt that bad. We chatted to a local who tried his best to explain the best way to walk and we managed to find our way in the end. Gem wasnt feeling to good so half way she decided to grab a taxi with rach and dan looking after her while me Damo and Sarah carried on walking. We got pretty far and were on the home stretch to the pier when the others came past us in a cab and stopped to pick us up. We wanted to get there by walking but who could resist a lift in the heat we were walking in. We soon realised that the lift was a good idea when the home stretch turned into another miles trek! We arrived at the port, bought our tickets for 50 baht cheaper than the tourist place, i know its not much but it felt good to beat the tourist trap at last. The boat trip went quick and the approch to Phi Phi was amazing, the island looked beautifull!
Once again we were going with the flow
so once we arrived we had to try and find some accomodation. Again everyone moves from FMP over to Phi Phi in the days we were so we had to try hard to get somewhere to stay. We were bundled with offers when we got off the ferry and managed to find ourselves some cheap enough accomodation but this time we didnt have ac just a fan but it was about time we roughed it a bit. We had 2 rooms, luckily enough the gilrs got given a room that stank of sewage and the lads got an ok room. before you say anything about the boys offering the clean room to the girls, we didnt know until the day after when the girls told us so shut it! During the day we walked around Phi Phi finding out what we wanted to do over the next few days. We chilled out for the afternoon and splashed out on a big meal that we all needed. That evening we headed out to party, Sarah had a friend who owned a bar (Tiger) so that was the party destination. We met up with some others who had contacted us on facebook, Chirag, Brenda and Jordan. It was a crazy night, the vibe on Phi Phi was awesome, loads of travellers all with stories to tell. Ill let the pics tell the story for the night anyway as trying to recall everything can be a bit difficult when under the influence ;)
The next day (the girls told us about their room) we checked out to find somewhere else. We moved into another hostel which looked real nice, oh how we were wrong but i'll explain that later. Today was the day Damo left us to head back up to do the indo china loop (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam) so we walked him to the pier and said our good byes but it wont be forever, there will deffo be a reunion or maybe even he will come and catch up with us further on his travells! See ya soon Damo!! During the day we got a long boat round the bay to long beach, one of the nicest on Phi Phi. It was lovely, bright white sand, warm clear waters and a minimal amount of people on it. We had a huge section to ourselves so spent the day in the sun and swimming. It is possible to walk back so me and sarah left early to start the trek back though over the cliffs and boulders. It was a great walk, having to walk out intothe sea to get round rocks, clambering over big boulders, seeing crabs and fish, walking though woodland, was good fun. In the evening we decided to have a quiet one to save money so we thought we'd buy a dvd from one of the dodgey stands, our chosen title "The Beach" as that was where we were heading in a day or 2. After much searching we couldnt find it so we ended up with "Hostel" a film about a group of travellers who get kidnapped and killed while travelling...nice. We settled in for the night with snacks, most of us falling aspleep as we watched the film. Now for the new hostel drama i mentioned earlier. After the film we all felt a little bit itchy and some people had new bites. After checking ourselves we all found we had been bitten a fair few times. the bites weer in locations where we had been incontact with the bed so we thought it cant be mossies its got to be bed bugs! We jumped up and had a look at the sheets and saw a few bugs crawling, we lifted the matress and saw a roach...nice. Again this was in the girls room haha, me and dan went and checked our room for the same creepy crawlies but our room was fine, nice and clean :) We all changed our clothes and moved the girls up into mine and dans room. 5 in a bed, it was a funny night, we didnt even get annoyed and laughed about it all. There is a pic of us all squached up in the same bed but surprisingly we all had a pretty good sleep.
The next day we didnt find the bed bug situation funny anymore and had a little word with the staff. We were staying for 2 nights but we argued and got our money back for the 2nd night and moved yet again to another hostel. We couldnt get the money back for the girls for the first night which was a bummer but we did tell people not to bother staying there which made us feel better. If you go to Phi Phi, the bed bug hostel is called AC Anderson! We moved in another hostel called K house and were reallhy impressed with the quakity we got for the price.the rooms smelt very clean, the staff were really helpfull, they made crazy animals out of our towels and put flower petals over the bed haha (they were plastic though but still a nice touch). During the day we did some shopping, walked up the view point and chilled on the beach. the view point took us 30 mins to walk to up very steep steps to the top of the hill but it was absolutely worth it. the view was awesome and you can see that from the pics! We chilled up the top for a while, had an ice cream and read some papers about the tsunami. there were pictures of before and after. If you were up where we were during it you would have seen it all, it was quite a sobering thought to see how the wave would have swept across the island. We planned to do a trip over to Ko Phi Phi Ley the following day with a group called Maya. Maya are the only company allowed to do an overnight trip to the island and we wanted to be there so we booked it all up for the following day which i'll explain inthe next blog! In the evening we went out for a few drinks and to watch a Thai Boxing match that ive wanted to see for ages. The boxing was pretty impressive, they are skinny but the power and speed they have was mad. 3 rounds of fast paced kicks and punches, a few knock downs from kicks to the head (ouck, it looked bloody painfull) and a cazy jumping knee to the face to finish it off. I took a video that ill try and upload at some point.
The next day was "The Beach or Maya Bay as its known" We chilled out and the girls did some shopping for the day before we got picked up around 4pm to head out to Ko Phi Phi Ley!! :)
