Well, its been a while since ive updated this blog, infact its the 25th of May now so ive probably forgotten some stuff but i can always update it later.
Singapore was really good fun, a very tech and clean city and the best thing i saw were the escalators! they slowed to a crawl when no one was on them and sped up as someone approached and during rush hour they went at full speed literally chucking people out of the subway stations, brilliant! To own a car here is very expensive, i think i understood when the tour lady explained but basically you have to rent the car from the government, you cant actually buy one. Because of this the public transport systems are awesome, never late, always working, unlike London!!
We were there for Chinese New Year which was really cool, the decorations were awesome. We ventured into the centre for the countdown and wondered through all the markets that had been set up for the event. It was really nice, it had a very local feel to it plus it was mega packed and we had to sqeeze through everywhere we went. The fireworks were ok but ive seen better ;) we could hear some aweosme ones a few streets over but there was no way we could get over there in the crowds :(
We only had a few days in Sigapore so we got a tour bus which took us around everywhere. It was really good actually, the commentary told us some real interesting info. The city had lots of different areas, we drove though the Indian quarter and the smells were so nice and made us want a curry. There were lots of crazy buildings and the tallest hotel in the world, 4 seasons Singapore. We went on the Sky Wheel which is the same as millennium wheel but bigger, the biggest in the world in fact! From the wheel we could see over the whole city and we were right above the Singapore gran Prix circuit pit stops! We could also see a new casino being built which looked absolutely massive...that reminds me of another fact, Singapore citizens have to pay a fair bit to be able to enter a casino, whereas any foreigner gets in free. there are lots of rules to stop gambling, smoking, drinking.
In the evening we went to Raffles (where the singapore sling was invented) and had a cocktail, can ya guess which one? We were told you needed to dress smart but that was a bit hard for me so shorts and flip flops it was and they still let me in :) The bar looked like one from an old school movie, cashew nuts at the bar and apprently you just throw the shells onthe floor...so we did, it was covered in them anyway. We had one singapore sling each and sat on the balcony and took our time drinking them, why....because the bill for 3 drinks was $88!! It was worth it though :)
We stayed in a really nice hotel as it was sarahs last night, it was a nice change to hostels and a chance to really freshen up in a proper power shower! on the 3rd night we went for dinner and decided to have Singapores signature dish, the Chilli Crab.
Earluier on in the day we went on a river cruise and saw a really nice row of restaurants along the river so we headed there and picked our crab to have chillified ;) 40 mins later we were presented with some crazy cutlery and a big plate of crab covered in chilli sauce. We dug in and after a few seconds were all sweating, it was damn spicy but we powered though and finished it off. It was good but it was a tad expensive so i wouldnt make a habbit of getting it.
Thats all i have at the mo but check throughthe pics and there should be some stuff i forgot to mention probably.
Next Stop Darwin and a whole new continent!
