Off the plane and instant heat! This place is in the middle of wet season so the humidity is high, its supposed to be raining but the week we arrive is some of the hottest weather ive ever experienced. The heat isnt normal, im used to dry heat everywhere so far where your hot but not sweating lots, Darwin was different the humidity meant that within 2 minutes you were sweating, and thats no joke!
We got to our hostel at 4am, luckily enough its 24hr reception so we checked in but had to wait till 2pm before we could check in. We were let into the roof area with the pool and some deck chairs, it was still dark so we tried to get some sleep. We knew we were somewhere diffefent now, strange noises coming from the bushes from bugs and killer things, nah ist not that bad really, just different noises to what we were used to.
We were woke up at 9 by the cleaner and had to get up and face the sun. It was hot at night but now the sun was up ooooo, it was roasting hot!
We took a walk around the esplanade which is suposed to be famous and really interesting..its not. We went to see some beaches, now darwin isnt known for its beaches but we wanted to see them anyway...dont bother. I went to the botanical gardens for something to do....dont, its crap.
I really thought Darwin was going to be a good intro to Australia but i couldnt wait to get out of there, there was nothing to do during the day at atnight it just turned in to a holiday strip similar to Magaluff, full of piss heads, mainly young navy people.
We did have a good night 1 night and I did meet a now good mate (im writing this in may) Tuan who came out with us. Tuan was heading in same direction and so we started travbelling together which was cool as i was the only guy inthe group left. Nothing againstthe girls :), just nice to have some backup haha!
Anyway, Darwin really wasnt that great and i was looking forward to Kakadu. Maybe i did Darwin wrong but i wouldnt go there again unles i had to.
On to Kakadu!
