After another 9 hour coach trip we arrived in Town 1770, one of the landing spots of Captain Cook and the first landing spot in Queensland. We arrived in lovely sunshine, it was baking hot once again! Carrie had received a text in the night from her mum saying there was a massive earthquake in Chile and there was a risk of a tsunami hitting the east coast of Australia. We were smack bang in the middle of the East coast so we planned to go and check out the beach to see what was happening later on.
Town 1770 is tiny and the only reason we came here was to do the Scooterroo tour, yes that is a word, Scooterroo tour is run by some crazy South African dude who takes about 30 people around on choppers, not full powered Harley Davidson's but still a pretty decent looking motorbike that will take you up to 80 kph. The tour takes you around the Town of 1770 and stops on a beach to watch the sunset while eating wedges! Check the pics to see what I mean.
The scooterroo tour was that evening, we were only here for one night so dumped our stuff in the hostel and headed on down to the beach. There was a big board up saying that entry to the beach was not advised as there was a tsunami warning. We asked the life guard what was happening and she told us that 4 meter waves had hit the gold coast and were heading this way. We stayed for a bit to see what happened but nothing ever arrived, the beach was nice enough but we had to get ready to go and cruise around on a chopper.
We got back to the room and there were two other people who had arrived back who were staying in our room, Kelly and Kevin. They were cousins and had been travelling the same route as us and we figured out we must have just missed them in the Whitsundays. I spotted Kelly had a guitar and I was keen to have a go since my one was stolen in Malaysia but didn't want to ask just yet. We had a chat and they told us that the scooteroo tour was awesome and that they had done it the night before. They were also heading off tomorrow on the same bus as us down to Fraser Island, our next stop. We decided we would all go together which was cool, 2 more additions to the group J. We got picked up by ina minibus and taken to Rogers (the crazy south African) garage where he runs the tour from. We were kitted out with helmets and shin guards etc and then given a motorbike. I picked one with an Ozzy flag on it and then we had a quick lesson on how to ride a motorbike, yep that's right, a 15minute lesson and then we were allowed out on the open road! Madness but we were all up for it.
We set off and it was great, down these long empty roads cruising along on a chopper, it was so funny, we all looked to cool for school! We drove around checking out the sites and even stopped off to see some kangaroos. Roger told me that I had picked the fasted bike out of the bunch J obviously I had to test this out so me and tuan dropped to the back of the pack and then opened up the throttle to see what we could get, 80kph was the top reaching 90 maybe downhill. We headed on down to the beach and had some wedges and watch the sunset, well, watched the sun disappear behind some clouds but id seen sunsets before and the biking was enough for me.
We arrived back and chatted more to Kel and Kev about Fraser Island, they werent in a group yet so we told them to call up and see if they could join us. They were told they would have to wait till the day which sucked but they came anyway in case. The next morning we jumped back on the coach and headed on down to Rainbow Beach, our departure point to Fraser Island.
