We arrived in Sydney coming over the harbour bridge which was a nice entry and pulled up at central station. We had a coffee and croissant for breaky and then made our way up to the hostel. Kelly lives in Sydney so she went back to her parents house and we were going to meet up later.
We all met up again in the evening and went to a live music night which was real cool and had a few bevvys before heading back to the hostel.
We woke up and headed back to her parent house in Drummoyne. It was also St Paddy's Day, great timing to arrive in Sydney! We got to Drummoyne and first i met her Mum, Dee. Mark her dad was at work. He was a hard core Liverpool fan i was told and me being Arsenal meant we were going to have to have some words, haha. Kelly and Dee took me out on the ferry to see the site of Sydney, mainly the opera house. Dee was cool and she took us for lunch at the rocks which is a funky corner of Sydney. We then went to Newtown which was a little like Camden back home. We went to a Turkish decor shop that Kelly said had a hidden cafe in the back. She wasn't lying, we went to this cool place where out the back of this furniture shop was a wooden den with loads of cushions and funky furniture. We had a Turkish coffee which was mental, thick and very strong. After that we went to a music shop to get a penny whistle for Kelly as she used to play and wanted to pick it up again.
That evening Kelly asked if i could stay round at her parents house, which was ok by her parents so we headed back to get ready for Paddys night in Sydney! We headed out and met up with everyone else and all Kelly friends, the night was looking to be a good one. We put our bits of green on and hit the pubs! We were going to stay in the rocks for paddy night as thats where a lot of the good irish pubs were apparently. It was a wicked night, a lot of jigging and a lot of Guinness J and it was the first time the Sydney Opera Houose was going to be lit up ion a colour, and that colour you guessed it, was green. Check the pics, it looked amazing!
The next day was the day before my last in Sydney and the point where me and Kelly had to decide what we wre going to do as this was her last stop on her travels. That night i cooked kelly's parents and her bro lasagne which definitely scored me some points ;)
My plans were to head to Melbourne on greyhound and rent a car to see the great ocean road. I really wanted Kelly to come with me but she had to decide whether to stay and do gigs or fly back up to Whitsundays as she had been offered a job on the boat she went out on as a hosty, cook etc.
After talking for a while we had a plan. We decided to go for it and travel down from Sydney to Melbourne in a camper van together and then Kelly would fly backto Whitsundays to work on the boat and I would fly off to NZ on the next step of my trip. As for "us" we would talk over the next 7 days and see what happened. This was a huge decision as we had only been getting to know each other for a few weeks and what better way to see how we deal with each other than spend 7 days stuck in a camper van with just each other! This also changed my plan as we were now going to drive down the coastal road from Sydney all the way round through Wilsons prom along the GOR and then back to Melbourne. It was wicked as we were both going to get to see places we hadn't planned on seeing.
The next day we went and picked up our campervan, said good bye to everyone and headed off on our own little road trip, it was a really good feeling and i couldn't wait to hit the road with her!
