Set off on our 2 day boat journey down the Mekong to the Thai border. Had visions of Fla for 2 days but it's actually quite nice.
Had a couple of stops on the way, first was a cave where people visit and leave Buddha statues. There were over 4000 at the last count. Second stop was a hill top tribe ( didn't think about the fact that we'd have to climb the hill to get to it). Was very basic living and half of the kids weren't wearing clothes. Stood there for about 15 minutes whilst we stared and they stared.
Arrived in Pak Beng at about 6. Had to climb rocks in flip flops with my 15kg bag to get to the road. Great.
Walking to the hotel we passed a tv showing the royal wedding so we stood and gawped. Had a quick change at our rough and ready hotel before heading the hotel to watch what was left of the wedding. Will always remember I was up the side if a mountain in Laos during the wedding!

..... Highlight of the trip so far, crossing the river on a longtail to the Thai border in the rain then climbing up a muddy hill to the truck. With backpack on.... So good I never need to do it again!!!!!
