On Saturday we set off on our epic 10 hour journey to Laos. Left really early so we could arrive before the border crossing closed. Had lunch at a very local roadside cafe... If you can call it a cafe.
We arrived at the border after the most traumatising journey up mountain paths on a bus. If I didn't feel so travel sick I'm sure I would have been stifling screams like the others.
The border was a bit of an experience... First we saw a lorry full of caged up dogs. Obviously for consumption. There were so many of them in one cage it was pretty horrific. We then had the joy of creepy border controllers. Our guide told us not to smile because they'll hold you back to try and talk for longer. They were definitely being dodgy and us blondies on the tour have issues as it is with the Asian men!
We finally reached our destination in Laos. It's a border town with not a lot to it. No Internet access, no phone signal and we went to the one restaurant. I went with Apple, our tour leader to get some travel sickness tablets from a shack... Down an alley. God knows what they are!
So far I'm quite liking the change of pace from Vietnam and as you can see, the scenery in Laos is stunning. Bit concerned that it is 80% mountains though. But having now tried the travel sickness tablets, less concerned.
