Lucy's Overseas Trip!
Hi everyone!
Been awhile since I've written.....been busy travelling with little internet access!! Since I last wrote to you I have been in Miami...to Orlando...and back to Miami again!!
When we were in Miami last week we didn't do much but shop!! I had a bit of a splurge on myself for the first time!! Think I might have to buy a second bag to bring home with me to fit in all my new things!! Oh well...you only live once!!!
We have also found this side of the US to be a lot nicer as far as the people and scenery goes!!
In Orlando on Wednesday we went on a tour to the Kennedy Space Center to see the launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis.....however, it didn't launch until the day we left:-(
The first day we were there, the mission got 'scrubbed' due to a problem with one of the fuel tanks! We still went to KSC however and saw many exhibits! I learnt so much!! The latest mission - 'Atlantis' - is a shuttle taking parts to be added to the International Space Center that orbits the earth!! The Space center is going to take a total of 5 years to construct after many, many missions, and once constructed will be as big as a footy field and will be one of the brightest lights in the sky seen from Earth!! This is where Astronauts will spend months at a time researching space!!! Very interesting indeed!!!
The head honcho's of NASA told the public that the shuttle would launch on Friday....so we had a day to fill in.....
What could we do........
We went to DISNEYWORLD!!! Such big kids!!!
Mel and I went on every ride there in a period of 12 hours...(very sore feet at end of day!!!) It was amazing - will definately be bringing my kids there one day!! There are actually 4 resorts that make up DISNEYWORLD and as we only had one day we went to the MAGIC KINGDOM!! It would take at least a week to see all 4 resorts!!
It truely was 'Magical'!!! We went on rides ranging from a scary rollercoaster ride through 'space' to a nice little carriage ride through the world of 'Winnie the Pooh'!!! We also saw a few parades with all the famous characters taking part and a brilliant fireworks display around the 'Magical Palace'!! Spectacular!! Oh and of course...we got our photos taken with Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck!!!!! Wouldn't have been a Disney experience without that!!!!!
We didn't get to bed after DISNEYWORLD until midnight and then had to be up at 3.30am to catch our bus back to the Kennedy Space Center (we were very tired little girls!) We then had to line up for about an hour to board a bus to get good seats at the VIP viewing area!! There we sat for 3 hours in the stinking hot sun anticipating the launch of space shuttle Atlantis....but....25mins before liftoff....they 'scrubbed' the mission!!! NOT HAPPY JAN!!!
So the end of that story is.....we went back to the hotel in the afternoon, had a lazy night and watched the launch on TV the next day before leaving to Miami!! Were so close to seeing it.... UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!
Today we caught a train back to Miami to fly out to New York City tomorrow!!! Can't wait !! We will be there for the 5th anniversary of September 11th. Apparently there is going to be quite a large commemoration ceremony which we will hopefully go to!!
We were very saddened to hear the bad news about Steve Irwin. Everyone is talking about it over here - they loved him!! Like we all did!! A sad loss of an amazing Aussie!
Anyways, getting tired now....had best be off!!
Miss you all heaps
Lots of love and hugs
