We arrived in Ooty in a new state, Tamil Nadu on the 17th Feb. Again this was not quite what we expected, i though it would be more colonial but in fact was just a very busy Indian town, set in beautiful hillsides. It was also much cooler here which was a nice change from the heat of Mysore.
We arranged to do a guided trek of the sourrounding area which was about an 8k walk. The morning was a really pleasant walk through all this very English coutryside, tea plantations, eucalyptus trees and hillside villages . After lunch we start a pretty steep walk to reach a high ledge, randomly on the way up Charlotte meet a goat herder with 6 (six) toes - only in India! I'll try and get a copy of the picture for you to see. The walk up was no problem for such a fit person as myself (ahem)......i actually thought i might colapse on the way, but made it in the end and at the top was worth the pain as it was a breathtaking view of the whole valley. Tea planations as far as you could see dotted with trees and animals and tiny villages. We had a nice rest there admiring the view before the descent down.
That evening we discovered an America style diner and had pizza with chocolate brownie and ice cream for pudding........heaven :0)
