Place: Melbourne
Weather: cold! It really is winter down there!!!
We landed at around 7am and I had to collect my bag and declare my noodles and coffee J. I then tried to check in for my next flight which was at 3pm so I knew it was a long shot and it was. I had to keep it with me until 1pm so I couldn't really go looking around the shops because it was too big and I didn't want it on my back for too long. So I sat myself down in Subway with a drink and went on my computer for a while. There was no internet so I decided to just sort out my photos.
That killed about an hour and then my battery ran out on my laptop. I couldn't find my adaptor because I hadn't needed to use it in Malaysia. So I bought myself a puzzle book and started doing some of them. I thought Id get into the line to check in at around 11.30 since it was really long and thought it might take a while and also thought I may be able to check in now. It was about 12 when I got to the front but there was a gate for my flight so I thought I must be able to check in now. Luckily I could and I went straight through security.
It didn't make much difference though because I was too tired to bother shopping so I sat and did some puzzles. I then started talking to an Australian guy who was telling me how Australia isn't as amazing as they make out in the media. I still think it is.
I pretty much fell asleep on that plane. I was sat by the emergency exit though and had to be briefed on how to use it before we set off. It was nice to have the leg room but I didn't like the extra responsibility.
Thankfully I knew how to get to the city centre so it was pretty quick. I checked into the hostel and went to dump my stuff in the room. I want planning on dong anything but going to bed early that night since id literally had an hour the night before. Strangely I got called back down to reception and I thought it was going to be because my card hadn't worked or something.
Well it was something much better than that!! There was a guy working for the Courier Mail there and he was looking for a backpacker to do the bridge climb for free and then speak to their reporter afterwards. They were making an article on promoting tourism in Brisbane. I obviously jumped at the chance…who would turn down a free bridge climb!
I was a bit annoyed that I couldn't have lie in though but atleast I had something to do for the next day.

Gran Mixed blessing to be allocated an emergency exit seat. I was once offered one and accepted before realising what might be entailed. No way would I have been able to lift the door, so I prayed even harder for no emergency on that flight! Definitely a blessing though, to be selected for the free bridge climb. Fancy being featured in the local newspaper! Hope you got a copy. Expect Brisbane looked a lot different from last time you were there, in the flooding.
