After a long night flight from Las Vegas (stopping for a few hours in Houston, Texas) I finally arrived in Washington D.C.
Washington is a nice city, but certainly not my favourite. It was interesting but the 3.5 days I had there were certainly enough. Compared with the climates I have been used to in the past 7.5 months aswel Washington felt very cold!!!
I did all the touristy things: saw the White House, Lincoln Memorial, war memorials, National Monument, walked along the National Mall and the Reflecting Pools and saw the Capitol Building. The buildings are all really impressive.
I did a couple of museums whilst I was there. I did the American History Museum which wasn't great, the International Spy Museum which was quite interesting and then the Crime and Punishment Museum. This museum was great, definitely one of the best ones I've ever been to, I even managed to spend over 4 hours in there which is pretty impressive for me as I normally get bored quite easily in museums. They featured all the crime history in America, looked at the different prisons, had a large section on the FBI and their 10 most wanted and also had a huge and very impressive forensic exhibition, so I certainly kept myself occupied! This museum is also home to the tv show 'America's Most Wanted' (their version of Crimewatch) and you walk around the television set which was interesting. Definitely a good museum to visit, probably the highlight of my trip to Washington.
I was going to go to the Arlington Cemetery but it was raining so I just had to go shopping instead....shame?!?!? :-)
Overall, Washington wasn't too bad. It's a well laid out city but it is very expensive and not geared towards to tourists. It was also a large building site and FULL of police presence when I was there in preparation for President-Elect Obama's inauguration in January. Wasn't a bad place to spend a few days though.
Next, on to New York City!!!!!
