I am now in Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon), Vietnam. I have been here for a few days now and leave tonight for the beach in Nha Trang which is located up the Vietnamese coast.
The rest of Cambodia was good. We went to the torture chambers and killing fields which were awful. So sad! Unbelievable that people could do that to one another and it all happened within the last 30 years. When we went to the Killing Fields, most of the mass graves have been excavated, but not all of them. You can see bones and bits of victim's clothing coming up from under the ground along the paths. It's so sad there. Thousands of bodies!! I'm glad I went though and learnt about it. It's an incredibly humbling experience.
Cambodia overall was fantastic, one of the best countries I have ever been to. Highly recommend a visit there.
After Phnom Penh we crossed the Cambodian-Vietnamese border and arrived in Ho Chi Minh City. It's soooooo busy here, I've never seen so many motorbikes. Crossing the road it a nightmare!! It's also incredibly hot and muggy here. It isn't a bad city and I've enjoyed having a few days to chill out and take things slowly. I did a visit to the Cu Chi War Tunnels which were really interesting. So small; I was ready to come out after a few minutes let alone spend hours down there. I also did a trip down to the Mekong Delta which was very relaxed and a nice day. Within Ho Chi Minh City I have visited the War Remnants Museum and the Reunification Palace. The War Museum has the most awful photos in there of what the American soldiers did to the Vietnamese people. The photos of the torture and dead bodies is horrific.
I am off on an overnight train tonight to the beach town of Nha Trang for 2 days of chilling out at the beach and snorkelling, I can't wait. Will be nice to get out of a city and really relax for a few days :-)
