I am currently in Cambodia and am loving it here!! One of the best places I have been. The people are the nicest people I have ever met and they just make this country.
We crossed over the border from Thailand into Cambodia and drove along the 'Dancing Road'. Quite correctly named as we bounced all over the place, have never been on such a bad road. Of course our bus broke down after about 20 minutes so we had to get taxis for the rest of the 4.5hr journey. In hindsight it was probably a smoother ride. The Thai airlines pay the Cambodian government not to sort the road out so that people will pay to fly as opposed to get a bus. Just one example of the corruption within the Cambodian government.
Our first stop in Cambodia was Siem Reap. Here we visited the Angkor Temples which were amazing. We saw Angkor Wat and the temple which scenes from Tomb Raider were filmed in. It was fantastic. Angkor Wat is really impressive and all the other temples are really interesting. There are 100's here though, would take weeks to do them all! We also visited a floating village which was really interesting. On the way back from here we went to an orphanage school and it was heartbreaking. The children's parents had either died or the children had been left at the side of the road for someone to find them. Was really sad but the children were so lovely.
After Siem Reap we went to a town called Kompong Cham where we visited a weaving village and had dinner at a Cambodian family's home which was really nice. Traditional Cambodian food, was delicious! Really got a feel here for how the people in villages live.
We then headed to the beach town of Sihanoukville where we spent a few days chilling out at the beach, seeing some waterfalls and snorkelling. I even went fishing and managed to catch 2 fish!!!! The beaches here are beautiful and the sea was a really nice temperature. Everyone had a great time and really needed a few days of relaxation and chilling out. We had fantastic weather here aswel which just topped it all off.
I am now in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh. It is so incredibly hot here. Phnom Penh is a busy city, motorbikes and Tuk Tuks everywhere. We are going to the Killing Fields and the torture chamber tomorrow which will be an interesting but incredibly sad day. We watched the killing fields film in Sihanoukville and it is a sad film anyways, but even sadder when you are here and can really imagine it. Tomorrow will be a very emotive and hard day I expect.
After Phnom Penh we cross the border into Vietnam and head into Ho Chi Minh City which should be good. I will get all the Cambodia photos up on here very soon
