Yangshuo Day 3
I must apologise in advance that I am unlikely to finish this blog now. I have been on the computer for nearly two hours now (an admin day if you like), but the weather is lovely today and I plan to take advantage of it, by lounging by the river. The internet is good here (my new hostel) and I have added loads of pictures to flickr.
So...I got up at about half 8 and made it to the rooftop for breakfast. It was a lazy hazy morning, with a few specs of rain, but the view was still breath taking. The breakfast was great and i was all set for the Kayaking. I did, however, make a glaring error at this point when I opted not to carry the extra bulk of sun cream (the weather was cloudy, so i would be fine, right?).
I had a front seat ride in the minibus this time. Wow, the roads here are crazy. Buses just overtake other buses or trucks when they feel like it and miss us by too small a distance for comfort. Also, our driver appears to enjoy driving along the wrong side of the road for a bit while he pushes for a gap through to the other side.
We made to the river in once piece and the seven of us jumped in a kayak each. The bags would follow on a bamboo raft. Astonishingly, we had the river to ourselves and kept it, apart from the odd passing bamboo boat with a couple of tourists on board. The river flowed gently for the most part, but there were some shallower fast bits, which were great fun. We passed farmers and their water buffalo, kids bathing, and the view was always terrific. We had 3 hours on the river and it was a fantastic day.
It was pretty clear even on the bus back that my thighs were pinking up nicely. In fact they are still a rather violent shade of pink today (3 days on). Oops!
That evening we had the family dinner on the rooftop again. The other 2 from my room (Jeremy, and Clara) liked the sound of my plan to cycle up the smaller Yulong river to 'Dragon Bridge' and reluctantly agreed to get up early (to set off at 9.00) and we went to bed.
