Stuart wanted to visit where the Waitangi Treaty was signed. It's a 3/4 hour drive up to Waitangi so me, Stuart, Aunty Marcia and Uncle Steve set off early doors..... not before we pick up our coffee!!!
We have a tour around the treaty grounds and our guide could literally talk for hours, he knew everything - all the dates, names etc... impressive!
We book in to see a Cultural Perfomance - exciting!
We arrive at the temple where it is being held and a woman is stood there with a head dress type thing on and she has selected this old man to be our 'leader' for the duration of this performance....sounds interesting!
The doors of the temple open and these three men come out with sticks and start waving them about in our newly appointed leaders face! He doesn't flinch because our leader is hard. The woman explains that this is because they are sizing the guy up to see whether or not he is a threat to the tribe.
We all eventually enter the tent/temple thing where the tribe of 3 men and 3 women proceed to sing and dance for us like the Waitangi tribe used to do back in the day.
Very interesting.
