Got up this morning and went walkabout. I walked up the strip towards MGM Grand. The whole purpose was to see the lion in the foyer - but apparently he's 'retired' now. But on the way we stopped off at M&M World and the Coca Cola shop, so it wasn't a wasted journey.
Vegas is pretty insane. The hotels are out of this world. The next one we came across was New York New York, with its roller coaster. Had an amazing burger at lunchtime too, probably the best one since I got here. After that we continued back down the strip and decided to ride the High Roller - the world's largest Ferris wheel. But I wasn't convinced it was bigger than the London Eye - it certainly didn't feel it. The views were amazing. We then went to the Venetian. Wow what a hotel. Inside was a shopping mall that resembled the streets of Venice - the ceiling painted like sky and clouds, and all of the bridges and towers that are evident in the city itself. We took a gondola ride... but I was a bit disappointed as I could feel the boat rumbling - turns out they're nothing like the traditional Venetian gondolas - they're powered by a motor. Only in America.
Went back to the hotel and had a quick change of clothes, as we had to be out front at 5.45 to go to Cirque Du Soleil. We got picked up in two party buses. But I wasn't in a party mood, I was exhausted. Nevertheless the show was great, the acrobatics truly amazing. Afterwards we grabbed some pizza from the hotel where the show was and took to the slots. I lost $25 dollars - I wasn't happy.
At 10 we were supposed to get our limo ride down the strip, to a nightclub on the 56th floor. But Meaghan and I slipped out. I wanted to see more of Vegas than the inside of a nightclub. So we decided to go up the Eiffel Tower (replica of course) and check out the view of the strip from the sky. It was amazing. And by luck the Bellagio fountain show came on as we got to the top, so we watched that.
Then it was time to hit the sack. I had a pounding migraine and felt exhausted.
To sum it up, Vegas is extreme by all proportions and I'm glad I got to see it. But will I be visiting again? Probably not... it's not my idea of a good holiday location, unless you like extremes and getting wasted.
Next stop the tranquil Bass Lake and Yosemite. Yes!!
