What an absolutely astonishing place. The photos just don't do this place justice. You have to see it first hand to really appreciate the size of this 'big hole in the ground' that was as a result of the Colorado River.
This morning I got up super early to go and meet some of the group and watch the sunrise. It was beautiful and definitely showed the canyon at its best. The sun lit up parts of the rocks and made them look like they were on fire. The altitude really played on my breathing :(
Then it was time for the helicopter ride. We flew for around 50 minutes over the canyon. Really exhilarating! It was all calm whilst we flew over the forest then suddenly we crossed the rim and were suddenly really high up.
From the helicopter, we went on a guided bike tour around part of the rim. Me and bikes don't normally go together, but I did it in the spirit of seeing more of this great place. With sore bums we then went for a little walk on one of the trails. I didn't go far as the climb back up looked immense.
It's now early evening and we're going to go check out the sunset. After that I'm going to hit the sack as the next two days will be pretty hectic.
Next stop... Vivaaaaaa Las Vegas
