We spend most of the day flying across the country with a stop over in Texas, we left people stumbling home from the previous big night out in Vegas to arrive in D.C where people were driving, walking or running home from work. In our shuttle, we were holding on for dear life as we think at one stage we stubbled upon an ex-NasCar driver. There are both good and bad sides like any other city...it doesn't seem to matter that the President lives here. We got excited driving along Rock Creek Park as we had heard so much about it in NCIS. At our hotel, our beds come up to our belly buttons so we order in food and enjoy a night in, marvelling at our very comfortable room, watching a triple bill of NCIS.
We only have one day here so we are trying to squeeze as much out of D.C as possible. We make an early start for the Metro which is easy enough to use but a ticket failure sends us accross town in the opposite direction to what we needed to go. Our first stop is the White House...which is disappointing because the public is only allowed glimpses through a break in the trees out front. So we head to the Smithsonian Centre, on our way the street comes to a stand still and no other than Barack Obama and his 100 security vechiles drive on past, not bad since we were only here for a day :) We then take a walk to the Washington monument and the reflection pool where we meet some WWII veterans. Back on the underground to go to the very SECURE Pentagon, which doesn't look much like a Pentagon up close. It does provide a very beautiful memorial for the Sept. 11 victims. A quick lunch stop in the middle of the Naval district where you pay by the kilo for what you eat and then in search for the 'real' NCIS building. NOT easy to find, I would give away the secrets of getting there but then you would not enjoy the thrill of the chase like we did, needless to say after a few smiles, conversations with locals and a few wrong turns we got there!!! Oh, the excitement and then to cap the day off we got to meet a real life NCIS agent...YAH!!! Sadly, however, Caf-Pow is made up and can't be found anywhere in the Naval Yard :(
