Early start from NYC on the train up to Niagara Falls which our train driver imforms us is Niagara "ghost town" falls, it seems we have stumbled across another sight which is 'seaonal'. After 9 hours on the train is is very nice to be welcomed in our lovely guest house which automatically makes us feel like we are home. We head down to the grocery store and pick up loads of fresh fruit and veg...finally a kitchen to cook in, oh healthy home cooked meals how we have missed you! The town is very...very quiet but it is very much welcomed after such a noisy and fast paced week in the BIG apple.
The town is empty on closer inspection in the morning. Building are either boarded up or signs hang on their doors saying they are closed for the season...see you in 2010. We do find the Aquarium open and they offer us a tourist pack for $13 not the usual $50+ that they usually charge...hmmm why the discount just because it's a little cold outside??? We look through the Aquarium then head to the trolley car that takes us along the river to the Niagara Falls, needless to say our trolley is empty LOL Ok so I am starting to wonder if travelling is actually better in an arm chair...a bit disappointed really, not as large or as fast as I would have liked and not even called Niagara Falls...it's Horseshoe falls...maybe I should have studied more before coming? oops. However, the Americian Falls, rapids and creeks that rage before and around it are beautiful. An Imax documentary gives us a bit more history about where we are and so we head back to the falls to see them light up for the night...now this is beautiful!
Off to a new country today, we cross rainbow bridge and for a moment our two halves of our body stand in seperate countries...pretty cool experience for 2 girls who grew up on an Island and could never had experienced a moment like that :) As we move further across the bridge the love and admiration for these falls become clearer, America has the best falls but Canada has the best views! Passing border security we walk closer to the falls and as we approach a layer of fine mist starts to fall down upon us and the roar of the water becomes louder, now I was right in saying yesterday I was disappointed because today I am anything but...you really must see these falls from both sides to appreicate them...what I am looking at now is 'postcard perfect'. Earlier in the day we did a gorge drop below the American Falls now it is time to go beneath and behind Horseshoe falls...pardon me a minute if I can't hear or see you as the sound, the sight and the smell of the water takes everyother sense I have alway...it's fantastic, finally I feel like I understand what all the fuss is about.
We decide to stay in Niagara for the full day until our train leaves at midnight, we enjoy another yummy $2 FULL breakfast at a local cafe...off peak season is high fiving my wallet at the moment. What better day to be in a small town in America than on Halloween. We spend the day relaxing and buying sweets for the trickand treaters that will line the streets tonight...However we only ever see 3 for the whole night??? Isn't this meant to be one of America's biggest holiday events...oh well more sweets for us as we begin our 2 day train ride down south to New Orleans.
