HAPPY BIRTHDAY BONNIE!!!!
Bonnie and I start the day at the smallest country in the world - Vatican City. Rhiannon chooses a more leisurly start to the day enjoying breakfast at a cafe. Vatican city proves to be a country made up of millions of artworks all capivating and all with a story to tell. The walk to the Sistine Chapel is cloaked with artwork upon artwork no stone in the buildings are left uncovered. Inside the chapel a silence appreciation greets us as hundreds of onlookers have eyes only for the ceiling. Although when an Aussie girl lays on the ground because her sense tells her it is easier to see like that than keep flipping her head back...some people eye the ground as well with a 'tiff' sound that means: If only I had the gumption to do the same!
Moving on from Sistine chapel we walk to view the balcony where the Pope delivers his speeches, funnily enough the Pope is in Sydney today. The day is getting hotter and we begin to move across town to find lunch.
Meeting up again we all head off to explore the Forum and The Colosseum from inside. The sun is hot, temps are hitting 40 + and shade is no where to be found, but we press on. The history and the buildings (remains) are amazing but standing inside the Colosseum doesn't exactly have the same feeling we thought it might. We visit the bones of the munks before heading out to enjoy Bonnies Brithday Dinner sitting opposite the Trevi Fountain. Drinks back at camp cap off a great day in Rome.
