On The Road with Lou!
My alarm goes off at 0700 and I think, what is that sound and why am I hearing it? I didn't sleep very well, my room was very humid due to all the drying laundry.
I take a peek out of the window and see a sunny blue sky day, yippee! I check my hanging laundry and find a big soggy mess, so everything goes outside. The pavement is still wet so lacking a clothesline I use the next best thing and arrange everything on my bike, pointed at the sun. I reset my alarm to 0900 and hope there aren't any desperate hobo's around that would consider stealing my bloomers!
I could prolly stand to lose everything except my jacket, and my jacket is too heavy to carry! It is still all puffy and swollen with water. Before going back to bed I set up the motel room hair dryer in a desperate attempt to dry my riding shoes, I have my doubts, especially when the dryer keeps cutting out when it overheats.
Woke up at 0900 to find the pavement dry and hot, and the parking lot empty. Drying is going well and will be even faster when sandwiched between hot asphalt and hot sunshine.
The shoe drying experiment worked out better than I could have imagined, only took about 45 minutes each and they were completely dry. I just let the hair dryer run and it would cut out after maybe 5 minutes but then re-engage when it cooled. Next I tackled my wallet and the small amount of cash I had in it.
By 1030 I had almost everything dry, some items needed a hair dryer touch up, usually in the waistband area. My jacket and gloves were about 75% dry, too much leather to dry completely in the short time I had. Even my sheepskin seat cover dried 100%! You may ask why I have only 1 set of riding clothes but it comes down to; wear different clothes everyday and wreck everything, or wear one set daily and wreck that.
I left a little late, 1115, it was about 85 degrees so the lingering dampness of the jacket and gloves provided some nice cooling. I needed to do some iPhone Maps work in conjunction with my paper map to determine where I was, having arrived in the dark. It took a couple of minutes but I found myself on the Old Nashville Highway which intersected with my old friend the 412, a couple of country roads later and within 90 minutes I was on Interstate 75 headed to Atlanta!
I had researched my turn off in advance, interchange 255, so I knew exactly where to turn and exactly where my hotel was, sorta. As always it is the last 500 ft that is the toughest. I had booked at a place called Hyatt Place that I had assumed to be a tall hotel so I kept looking for a skyscraper, but as it turns out it is more of a boutique hotel in a 4 floor building.
It took awhile, was a little frustrating but eventually I found it, a small oasis nestled between a couple of office towers. Next door is a micro brewery that cooks a mean bone in rib-eye, and the swimming pool is warm and clean.
I am booked here for 2 or 3 days depending upon how the file transfer goes after my plastic surgery shoot on Thursday. We are installing this afternoon, doing the marking shoot tomorrow early morning and then a abdominoplasty mid morning. If the file can be transferred to my portable drives in a timely manner I may leave tomorrow afternoon and put in 300 - 400 km so my arrival day in Key West can be a short day.
Talk soon!
