On The Road with Lou!
Unpacking the bike for the final time;
Here are the trip stats:
Distance travelled by Ferries (2): 33 kms
Distance travelled by Dalton Highway Express: 1606 kms
Distance travelled by Motorcycle 8435 kms
Stayed in 18 different mo'tels over 20 days (2 nights in Skagway + 2 nights in Anchorage)
Highest cost $169.00 CDN in Dawson City, YK
Lowest cost $78.00 CDN in Valleyview, AB
Stopped for gas 38 times, didn't always fill up, but tried to keep synchronized with Bill
Highest fuel prices, Dawson City, YK @ $1.44L (Can funds, $6.54/gallon equiv)
Lowest fuel prices, Fairbanks, AK @ $2.13/gal (Can funds equiv, 0.59/litre equiv
Used 381 litres of gas in total or:
61.35 MPG or 3.84L per 100 kms (Why don't we do kilometers per litre?)
The Rocket was solid, didn't even burn a single drop of oil. Needs a wash for sure!
It was definitely much more expensive travelling in both the Canadian & US North, than it is travelling in the US South. We may go back North one day, but we'll give them at least 15 more years to fix their roads!
To my faithful readers, thank you for joining me on this journey and for your comments and well wishes! I would encourage you to get out and do something, challenge yourself, get outside of your comfort zone. I leave you with this quote from Mark Twain:
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
That is all for now!
Talk soon! Lou

Audrey Groeneveld Loved travelling with you via the blog. I think the way you embrace life and the people and things you love is very special. Your Mark Twain quote is inspiring. Glad you and Bill are back safely so you can plan your next adventure.
Ed Barth Nicely done, thanks for sharing the journey. Great to see you and Bill made through safely. Looking forward to next years adventure, cheers.
Shirley Very cool, Lou! Poor Bill will never live down that nickname, though. Really enjoyed reading about your journey. Glad to read you are back safely!
Mike Smith For the two of you to have done those northern pot holed / greasy clay roads on a heavy road bike and a scooter, both with smooth road tires, is an amazing feat. I didn’t even like driving those roads in a 4x4. I enjoyed following your adventures and you’ll have lots of great stories to tell for years to come. Your description of the parting scene was somewhat reminiscent of when Dumbo had to say goodbye to his mother… sniff. And a special tip of the hat to Bill for his guest writing and being so patient with Lou.
