Our first impression of Rome is that it is night and day from Naples. In Croatia, we met an Italian couple on our boat tour who told us that there was a stark contrast between the north and south of Italy (south meaning Naples and everything below it). Believe me, they were not exaggerating. For every friendly, gregarious person that we encountered in Naples we have met a stiff and reserved counterpart here in Rome. I mean sure, you created Western civilization, we'll give you that one, but that was a couple thousand years ago, isn't it time to stop resting on your laurels and get over it? Anyways...
Today we embarked on our most ambitious foot-journey to date that took us through a good portion of the city over about 10 hours. The amazing thing about Rome is that you only have to walk a few blocks in another direction and you'll end up in an entirely different place, seeing a significant landmark or point of interest (the Spanish steps, the Pantheon, etc.). It certainly is a nutrient-dense city.
Today's photo is from the famed Fontana di Trevi, a very cool fountain that looks as if it flows naturally from underneath the building above it.
