Our trip to Jaipur didn't get off to the greatest start. Our train was at 6.05 - fine. We got up at 5.00 - fine. We got to the station at 5.45 - according to Sean's watch. According to the train station clock it was 6.25. Massive error. So we were then led away by one of the ever so helpful Indian men to the 'emergency ticket office' - advice: it doesn't exist. So we then had to wait around until 8am until the real ticket office opened. So 1 and a half hour sat in New Delhi station. They told us the next train was at 3.20. At Old Delhi station.
We got some breakfast and milled around, we set off to Old Delhi station in plenty of time, arrived at 12.20. So 3 hours waiting in the weirdest little station cafe. We did however; find some entertainment in some freaky little jumping spiders. We quickly moved tables.
So finally made it to the right platform, and along the longest train in history (approx 50 carriages) and we eventually found our berths. Nice little 2AC carriage. How to explain the journey that followed.... in short - Indian men are strange and unpredictable.
After being stared at for a while from the opposite berth, we were joined by two Indian men, and then spent the next 6hours having the weirdest conversations, Laura being compared to the Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif (Google it - spitting image...), discussing areas in India, being invited to their houses, eating their strange tobacco chew which is vile, being coerced into exchanging phone numbers, being bought plenty of train snacks, talking to their mates on the phone about being white and looking like Katrina Kaif, them checking our phone numbers were correct, one of them touching Sean's legs a little too frequently and taking plenty of photos and videos of us both. Interesting journey.
Our hostel is bare but cheap, just how we like it. The day in Jaipur was fantastic. We both much prefer it here to Delhi. We hired a rickshaw driver who took us round palaces and to a 'textiles factory' (his mates shop), we did have a 10 minute delay while he pulled over to row with his loan shark. Awkward. We saw the city palace, went on a very steep hill walk above Jaipur, saw all the backstreets and little workshops in buildings no bigger than most people's bathrooms. Monkeys and cows roam the streets freely, just a little more chaos to add to the roads.
We went for a meal in the revolving restaurant above a hotel. Now hitting the hay due to a 4.30 start tomorrow for our train to Agra. Fingers crossed we make it.
Love Sean and Laura xx
