Jaipur to Agra: The story of the train and the Taj....
The day started early, 4 .30am early to catch the train to Agra. We did think the ticket was cheap and then later realised why as we walked past all of the coaches and ended boarding a carriage so rammed it would be deemed unsafe anywhere else. Cattle class doesn't even explain it. 5hours covered in sweat, hungry, being pestered for money. Arriving was the best part of the day so far. Took a rickshaw, arrived at the hostel which was great value and I got my laundry done for 80p. Trying to forget about our interesting morning, we ventured onto the rooftop cafe and were met by views that would not look out of place on a postcard. Spent the evening at the Taj Mahal which was an amazing place. Seeing really is believing but we still couldn't believe we were actually there. It seemed very surreal that we were on a bench and to my right was the Taj Mahal. We met some girls from Cardiff that we'd run into at the hostel and shred some experiences of our journeys so far. Met them again a bit later and had a meal on the rooftop cafe watching the thunderstorm ~ did you know its monsoon season here... They told us about where they had been on their four week journey and we were greatly relieved to hear that everywhere else is not as pushy, hectic or unbearable as some of the places we've been so far.
On the 19 hour train now, heading to Mumbai. The guy next to us has been really helpful telling us good places to go and how to get from our random train station into the real Mumbai (not the fake Mumbai as our ticket operator helpfully booked us to. again, cheers Delhi for being so helpful). Will update soon. We are also trying to get pics online but computers aren't very reliable here.
Gotta go batt running low. Out. x
