Thursday, 5th June
Have been relaxing, taking it easy and not doing too much over the past few days. Here are just a few snippets....
Monday, 2nd June
Went for a drive and followed the cost north of Perth on a what was a sunny, busy bank holiday Monday (West Australia Day). We stopped off at Yanchep National Park for a picnic and saw my first glimpse of wild life (excluding ducks and parrots) - long overdue - koala bears and some kangaroos! I expect I'll see much more when I go 'oop north'.....
Tuesday, 3rd June
Lazy morning... Went for a walk -as usual - then caught the train to Freemantle which was only about ten minutes away by train. It was a bit of a damp morning but this afternoon has been warm and sunny and, as Laura and Aaron are both at work, I visited the Maritime Museum in Freemantle, the gateway to Australia for the rest of the world in the 19th century. Also had a bit of a wander about and called in at 'The Monk' for some frites and a pint of kolsch sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine...
Wednesday, 4th June
Another lazy morning..... Walked into nearby Claremont on another lovely, sunny day. Had a look around and stopped off for a large, flat white coffee and a sandwhich. In the evening, it was a visit to Freemantle Prison (not an 'official' one as such). It was a night-time tour of the prison, infamous in Australian history and housing up to 700 maximum security prisoners right up till 1991. It's supposed to be haunted... If you believe in that sort of stuff..... It threw up a few surprises as prisoners from the past suddenly appeared and started shouting at people... a bit spooky but good fun!
I met Laura and her friend from work for lunch today (Thursday 5th June) and this afternoon, I'm writing these notes having a coffee in a hill-top cafe on a gorgeous, sunny afternoon in King's Park which overlooks the city and it's terrific skyline. This evening, I'm meeting Laura and Aaron after they finish work for our last meal together before I prepare for the next phase of the journey - meeting my travelling companions for the overland trip of 2,500 miles from here in Perth, to Darwin first thing tomorrow morning.
Now.... (Stre-etch).... Think I'll have another cup of coffee.......
