Today began with a lie in... had breakfast at 9 our latest start yet. Breakfast was lovely everything you needed and the hotel allows us to store our suitcases all day. Happy days! We then went off in search of the bus pick up stop n bought our tickets for the day ensuring we had included the blue line bus for our journey to the ferry Port.
We then learned more history of Athens various areas and began our tour with the Acropolis museum. This museum was interesting before we even entered, it was built above an archaeological dig so beneath your feet you could see ruins through glass windows and open walls from below. Throughout the whole museum this effect occurred. Definitely a different experience can't wait to discover what they do once the dig is completed.
The South entrance to Acropolis itself was beautiful touring the area where the entertainment god of Greece was and moved on up to various ruins. Definitely a good walk up and glad of the light breeze we had all day. The higher up acropolis the more beautiful views of the city were. There's is alot of renovation occurring at present so many areas had scaffolding which slightly ruined the effect of ruins. However the Parthenon was lovely and as long as you watched your step you didn't trip over the many rocks that appeared in your way. You could definitely spend a whole day exploring these ruins and museums.
We then exited via a different area of the site and went in search of number 14 bus stop to catch our tour bus n promptly got a bit off track. We knew we were on the right street as dad n mike had checked the road sign matched our map. However couldn't see the bus stop! Not good as we were hungry n on a schedule. Then the bus we needed turned the corner and I opted for the traditional stand in the road waving my map praying the bus would stop. It did and we got on, in Leicester had I done that the bus would have sped on by. Lucky us we then visited Hadrians Arch and Zeus olympian. Both beautiful. We then returned to our hotel via a bus with an easy sign to spot n collected our cases then navigated our way to the ferry Port, spotting the sign we missed earlier at bus 14. It was huge no clue how we couldn't see it.
Finally jumped off the bus near our ferry Port n went in search if our boat. Unfortunately the driver dropped us the opposite end and it took us a good forty minutes or more to wheel our cases to the correct port. This port was huge and a little scary we had a man making crazy noises as he wanted our money and another man with a shopping trolley nsisting he wheel our cases for us quite rudely and loudly and shouting long after we had raced on by. Other than that we had a nice few pints and an ice lolly. Then made our way into the ferry n checked out our cabin for the night. Very basic felt like a very small caravan, hopefully sleeping in it won't make me sick. Now deciding what to have for dinner. Beer n a burger maybe.
