Last night, The Athens Lotus Hotel is lovely and our first accomodation of our trip and yes McCarthys, we found a lovely tapas bar called Taberna Ta Bapena cross the street who served cheap beer n reasonably priced food. Michael was happy but we managed to drag him to the hotel as we had an early start.Today, After almost oversleeping as someone's alarm never went off, we were up at 7 am n down for breakfast. We then had to find our excursion pickup point as I hadn't felt safe wandering the streets of Athens in the dark. Luckily it was a two minute walk but we did ask our hotel receptionist to point us in the right direction. We then had our first tour of the day to Ancient Corinth first stopping at Corinth canal, where the restaurant charged 50cents for a bottle of water cheaper than other places. The canal was 16kilometres long and 65 metres depth. Amazingly some brave people bungee jump this. Not us tho. The tour guide gave us some lovely history of Athens and upon arrival at Ancient Corinth led us round giving us a history of the market town and the differences between Romans and Greek architecture and statues. Apparently the Romans made statue bodies separate from the heads and slotted the heads in but the Greeks chopped the heads off the statues due to a change in religion and politics at the time. Also showing us one of Appollos many temples and brief insight into his life. Then we had an hour to relax and get food before our next excursion. The Temple of Poseidon the god of the sea and healing. Now I would recommend this trip the journey along the coast displayed beautiful views of the sea and lots of lovely villages and people swimming in the sea. The Temple of Poseidon was my highlight today, it was beautiful it had a great backdrop if the sea and it was fab to sit and soak up the atmosphere. Then out tour guide dropped us near our hotel n we promptly went back into the pub we found the night before for beers and burgers. Long but interesting day.
