Laura's Aussie Adventure!
Nnooooooooo ... I have just done a Michelle and lost a whole postcard that I had spent ages typing! Aagh! Anyway here goes again ...
I didn't manage to get back online to finish my last postcard before we left Melbourne yesterday.
Whilst we were still in Melbourne we took a day trip to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat which is an old gold town where everything is themed to fit in with the Gold Rush Era. It was a really good day. We got to go down into the mines, watched a $50,000 gold pour, saw a guy making sweets, went for a horse and carriage ride and panned for gold - although unfortunately we didn't find any! We also got to dress up in Victorian dresses and get our photo taken which was really cool! We looked like such ladies!! :0)
We had another night out on Friday night - this time with Christine and Emma. We started off in Emma's place and drank champagne (cheers emma!!) and then we went to Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. There we went to a couple of bars and a club and I think we got back to Emma's about 4ish! We stayed there that night and then didn;t get back to our hostel until about 2pm on Saturday!
Saturday was therefore a pretty quiet day. We had to pack our bags then aswell so I didn't make it out until that evening and Michelle and I went down to the river for a meal. I love it down there - there are so many shops, bars, cafes, etc. The Crown Casino Complex is down there and everytime I go I swear it gets bigger! By the river there are dancing fountains and fire displays - so amazing - so we chose a restaurant beside these and overlooking the river. We had steak again.
We had to get our train to Alice Springs on Saturday night so we just had time to say goodbye to all our friends in the hostel - we have had such fun with you all, it was great to meet you and you better keep in touch!
We are in Adelaide just now for 9 hours as this is where we change trains. I spent the morning seeing the sights of Adelaide - the Museums, Government House, the Festival Centre - and then I wandered around the Botanic Gardens which was lovely! I saw some gallahs, kookaburras, more rosellas and lots of other unusual birds! I was wanting to do some shopping but I will need to head back soon to meet the others to go back to the station.
I am sure that I have forgotten to tell you lots about our time in Melbourne so I may have to add more later! I have managed to get some of my photos on but still have more to add from Melbourne so will do that the next chance I get.
We arrive in Alice Springs on Monday just before midday. We have 7 nights there and 2 of them we will be spending camping at Ayers Rock! I really can't wait! xxx
