To fall through the clouds.
The advertisement for sky diving in new zealand!;well to be honest you cant escape it every town almost everywhere has skydiving advertised. Before new zealand having bungy'd in south africa and the buzz from that i had always thought i would do a ski dive first and so if the time came up for a sky dive new zealand was where i wanted to do it. Why my love for those incredible views, the thought of falling through the air just you no plain walls just you and the person that is keeping you alive. The thought of see incredible views whilst not having you feet on the ground. And of course there's is nothing like the feeling of adrenaline running through your bones.
Taupo, one of the most popular places for a jump, cheeper than anywhere else but a chance to see the east and west coast of the country your jumping in! Its not everyday you get to do that plus the extensive lake taupo clear to see. All week the weather has been perfect however today slightly more clouds and not perfect blue sky but i was happy to have clouds the feeling of falling through a cloud is something else!
The morning was spent watching as the clouds were clearing, drinking tea and waiting for the 11 o clock pick up. picked up in a limo at the backpackers...arriving in style all included. New experiences all round being in a limo! Onto the the jump kitted up in our jumping suit and harness, no real time to back out of it. It was crazy knowing that the guy who was keeping me alive was infact born in raigmore and original from foress...sky diving at the other side of the world with a fellow scot its a small world! His nick name lightening, his speed to get kitted up, clear to see as we were first on the plain and so the last to jump..., being filmed the whole time, hard to know what exactly to say when they say so anything you want to say to every one back home...(having not said i was doing a sky dive today it could of been very interesting if had all gone wrong). Another experience, going onto an aluminas pink plain! Around 8 of us jumpers each with our intructor guy. On the plain.... and then into the air, going from ground level to 15,000feet in around 20 minutes, one jumper going out at 12,000, the door just opening and seeing them shoot out!!! The nerves going a little, but what a view!! NOt clear as of the cloud but still clear enough to see mountain tops in the distance on each coast,. And so 15,000 feet came, as that door opens the feel of cold air, the gogles on straps tightened and the first out the plain one after the other i watch them go and then i was the last in the plain...time disappears as your now sitting at the edge of a plain legs dangiling out the site of land and clouds below, head back and GO!!!
Out the plain initially the sun in my eyes and then looking down...going form suiting to falling at enormous speeds your mind just cant take it in.....speachless unbelievable as your sore through those clouds the white and grey of the clouds the cool breeze and then looking down on the lake and acros, thumbs up to the camera and trying to breath and smile and take it all in!! And then boom the parachute opens and you shoot up and then the quiet sounds as your upright and your brain comes to terms with where and what you are doing being asked how was that all i could say was incredable very original but onestly mind blank with words to describe the experience, as we then wound our way to the ground, the ground coming closer and closer and then touch down..and tolled to stand...being back on the ground...a fixed smile, legs feeling like they are not attached and eyes like saucepans a buz of adrenaline and saying to yourself what on earth just happened up there!
Photos and our dvds shone, an embarssing few moments watching everyones photos and dvds but it creates a very special memory tro take home to show you all!
All in the day of a scottish adventurer exploring new zealand! :)
