Rain rain and the amzing sites it brings!
I am now in queenstown, howver the last 3 days in milford; i would recomend that place all day! the natural world really does create spectacular places and if you appreciate that then milford is for you wetaher its pooring rain that does not matter becuase it creats the amaing vegetation and the amazing water falls.
Sunday night it poored rain, and all night and into monday morning, ive seen alot of rain but thats up in the top for the amount of rain. Anually milford recieves between 7-9 METERS!!!Of rain!!! i think nearly everyone in the backpackers couaght up with there trip planning an journels on monday as the rain certainly came down!!. We were booked into a nature cruise at 4 and so at 3 o-clock the rain had eased as we walked down to the boat termanil. The 2 hour cruise was wet and windy and a little cold as you stood outside the boat but i had evry intention of being outside seeing this incredable place and thats what waterproofs are for. its not everyday you can say you have stood under one of milfords water falls (one way to test the gortex) wow i cant describe how much i loved the crusise! it was incredable and i had said id love to see a rainbow in one of the waterfalls and at the veryend of the trip that sun came out and there was that rainbow id been waiting for! Just amazing to see!!!!
Tuesday we got up early and headed to do some of the walks aorund the area, one of witch just a 20minute walk to see a waterfall and the errosion on the rocks, turbulant eddies had carved amazing curves and rounded hollows in the reiver bed and the gorge! :):)! then a 3 hour walk through rainforest, ive never seen so much moss species, all rainforest until we reached lake marian.....it was all clouded over as we sat and ate our lunch but within 5 minutes the sun broke through and wow the colour of the lake and the mountains that surounded it with fresh snow on the top. this is why the hard work walking is so worth it and why i just love this place! as we left the clouds closed in again it was quite incredable.!!
Leaving milfor and now in queenstown witch is a very young and adrenalin packed city, sourounded by mountains and the lake. I love it hear and so far have tried to avoid all the adrenaline packed atctivitys that id love to do but im trying to keep seeing all that geography i came hear to see. Yesterday i walked up ben lomand....i saw the name on the map and new i had to climb it! wow the 360 view i saw of queenstown and the surounding mountains, lakes including mt apsiring! it hurt going up there but i just new it was all going to be worth it. to be up there alone for the first 10 minutes at the summit.just mee a smile and all the sites i love!it was a great day, with incredable scenary! finished with a furg burger(very famous round hear and i know why; amazing....the bigs burger ive ever had packed with fresh salad and anything you want-i had the tropical swine....that gives you an indication of some of the names of the burgers)
as i walked alone back to the hostel around 9pm as the sky begun to turn blacker, the sounds of bagpipes as teh queenstwon highland pipe band played... home from home. but the trees along the lake and the light just seeing the hills and mountains in the back ground...i was happy!.
Today i am preparing for a 4day walk i will be on tomrow therfore the geograohical explanations and more details of places and names will follow evetually when i get more time along with photo's.
I should be back on the blog by next wednesday.
As i head into my element, mountaind, vegetation and fresh fresh air with the colours and sounds of the natural world to absorb me once again! :):)
