We woke up early to go to the beach (such a rare occasion!). Siobhan had a date with a boy she met on new years eve so she was already up getting ready (shock).
Me and Hannah left the hostel and went to get the tram to st kilda beach. We got our Myke card which is like a London oyster card and got on the tram. It only took us about 20 minutes to get there and when we arrived we headed straight to the sandy beach. It was a perfect day for sunbathing! It was 42 degrees, apparently the hottest day for years!! We sunbathed and swam in the sea all day. I can't imagine being anywhere else on such a boiling hot day!
We went and grabbed lunch from a bakery which did the cheapest baguettes we'd seen in Aus! We saw so many weirdos!!! There's so many in Melbourne! We saw one guy who had a scar like the joker on his face! Eurgh! Afterwards we treated ourselves to a cheap glass of vino.. We're on holiday right?!
We headed back to the beach and shortly after a couple of American guys started talking to us. They lived in Melbourne and were telling us where's good to go out. We went for a swim in the sea after; all day the sea had been completely still - then all of a sudden there were big crashing waves! It was the strangest thing! But so much fun as me and Hannah were like little kids jumping over the waves whilst holding onto our bikini bottoms as not to lose them!
We left the beach a little later than planned, as for we had decided to go out in Melbourne as it was Friday night.
That night we drank a bit too much goon in the hostel.. And headed out to a place called Richmond. We had arranged to meet a guy we met in Vietnam called Shannon there. He lives in Melbourne!
We made our way to Richmond and go a little lost on the way so we called Shannon. He apparently knew exactly where we were so came in a taxi and met us! Just as well, as we had no clue where we were going. Shannon took us to a little pub which was really cool, though unfortunately everywhere was dead quiet! He couldn't believe it! Apparently the streets are usually heaving! Shannon told us it was because the weather was too hot so noone was goin out. Too hot?!? In England everyone goes out when it's hot to celebrate!
That night we ended up staying at Shannons' friends house. No idea how! It was eventful with Hannah being sick in the toilet. All I remember of the night though is tasting Vegemite on toast for the first time! Its similar to Marmite, and for that I conclude... I am a lover!! Not a hater.
We ended up hanging the next morning and gradually headed back to our hostel (after stopping off at Hungry Jacks on the way of course). The day was one massive right off! We finally managed to get ourselves together and decided to go for a walk along the river into town. We stopped off on the way at Crowns Entertainment Centre. I'd heard some good things about it and thought we ought to check it out to see what the fuss was all about! Wow. There was one massive casino!!! Like a casino in Vegas. It kept going for miles and there were loads of bars, clubs & restaurants dotted around. We found a wicked bar which had a band playing. There was a DJ, drummer, saxophonist and an incredible singer doing house/dance tracks. We got approached by some weird Australians who asked us if we wanted to go for a drink so we thought it was time to leave and head back to our hostel.
