It's very lovely here. Beautiful beach, lovely room with amazing view. Hot but with a breeze. Scrumptious healthy food and drinks, a gym, pilates, yoga and exercise classes are abundant and there is also a community table for dinner for those that don't want to have dinner alone - and not to mention wifi throughout if you pay for it. So my perfect spot - ticks all my boxes, but there is something I'm not sure about. Maybe it's slightly bigger and more slick than I've been used to, maybe its because they keep calling me Elizabeth, maybe it's the number of middle class guests or maybe I'm just a little tired of being at yet another place having to make new conversations. But...I've been here just a day so my opinion may change and knowing me it will.
I was picked up by a guy who had grown up in Miami and moved to Bangkok about 6 years ago to set up a record label. I got talking as I did my usual and sat in the front seat. He said he didn't often get guests wanting to do that! He had moved out to the islands to start DJing among the party scene - full moon parties, half moon parties and dark parties are apparently where it is all at. He is DJing at one next week for full moon that has about 8000 people come and go between 5pm and 11am the next day! Clearly not the scene I am at (but maybe part of me secretly would like to be 15 -20 years younger and join in).
After arrival at Kamalya which is on the south of the island, I had my wellness consultation. Body Bioimpedance measurements, weight and height, hydration, body fat, cellular virality(!) etc and then a session with a naturalists. Lots of people who come here are for serious detox or weight loss or just to relax. Basically I'm ok and healthy but still a little 'burnt out' - my cellular activity was low and so I could do with taking fish supplements apparently and have a strangely high %fat for my BMI.
I had my first 90min personal yoga session this morning. It was in a beautiful yoga pavilion high up with an amazing view of the sea and islands and a bit of a breeze (but even with fans I of course sweated). We started with some meditation, breathing and the basic stretches. I'm not that flexible but enjoyed the peacefulness of it and the instructor was great and I'm looking forward to my second session tomorrow. Can't imagine getting into it in a big way though - but who knows. Relaxed on the beach, fortunately there was a cooling breeze as one of my toes has still not cleared up so I can't really go in the sea or pool to cool off yet. They bring you chilled lemon water and chilled fruit to your bed. Then did a gentle Pilates class and enjoyed dinner more chatting to a few more people - so maybe it is growing on me!
