We slept in today (finally) and decided to go to the Causeway of Amador district for lunch and to enjoy the yacht club scene. First we thought we'd make coffee. Remember we had to ask for some the first day; then the second day we couldn't make it because we thought the coffee mak r was broken..... but it wasn't plugged in (it looked like or was but it was for something else) it ! So on the third day, today, we made some. YUCK! It was like dirty dishwater.
We thought for part of the way we'd walk along the waterfront, which has a long boardwalk (made of stones) in a park setting with exercise equipment interspersed with foliage and beautiful views of the ocean. We thought it wouldn't be too bad as it was morning and there would be a nice breeze from the ocean. Well, we thought wrong!!! It was freaking HOT. We were both puddles by the time we got to the end of the boardwalk, by the fishermans wharf. So we grabbed a cab and arrived at our destination somewhat refreshed from the a/c in the cab. We browsed some of the shops and then plopped down for a cerveza (or 2) and people watched and had envious thoughts about the people who owned the magnificent yachts. After a time we got up to walk around some more and we made it about 50 feet to the next restaurant before we couldn't stand the heat any longer and had to have another cerveza. By this time it was 12:30 so we decided to have some lunch. This weather would be great if we were at a resort and could cool off in the ocean or pool but to walk around it was not fun!
Believe it or not, but we couldn't drink anymore so we decided to take a break and go back to the hotel and sit at the pool (and have some cervezas)! You knew it couldn't last! Our cab driver serenaded us to some Latin pop music on the way back. He spoke no English but Vic managed to communicate when necessary.
It was so nice at the pool. I think it's the first time we actually relaxed and did nothing on this trip. Life is good!!
Tomorrow we we come home. The trip was fantastic but we're glad to be coming back. There's no place like home....
