It rained last night as the ground is soaked this morning. Glad we left the Festival before the downpour. We're feeling loggy (tired) today after our shenanigans last night. It's a mauzy day again today. Hope you were paying attention to my mention of Newfoundland slang!
We have 2 games to take in today - 1 for each boy. First up was Kyle in a semi finals match against Alberta to see if he goes for gold or bronze. It was an intense match but Kyle scored in the 2nd period and went on to get an assist on the other goal. The final score was 2-0. So it's on to the gold medal match for him tomorrow.
Then we had lunch and went to Ty's match. Ty is going for gold in the consolation round. His game was also intense against the Ontario Selects. Yes, we came all the way to St. John's to play another Ontario team! We started off the scoring but the first two goals we scored were matched by the other team. Then we went up by 2 goals. This team was feisty and were baiting our players every chance they got. We can tell they get their attitude from the parents. Lord, thunderin' Jesus b'y (swear word) the moms were something else! I wanted to smack the gob off dat (slap them across the face). They were yelling at the refs, the players, some of our moms and whoever looked at them. We got a penalty and they scored to make it 4-3 with 1 1/2 minutes to go. They pulled their goalie so it was 6 on 5 but we managed to fend them off for the win. At the end of the game my sweet nephew got into a dust up with one of the hot headed players on the other team. Shockin', that is shockin' (it's shocking - thought is out in an easy one for you). The player grabbed Tyler and Ty defend himself. There was some pushing and pulling but that's about all until the refs got it under control. Ty had been pushing this guy out of the way during play as he had parked himself in front of the net.
Tonight we be going to the time (going to a social function - in this case the dinner/ banquet) with all the teams and their fans. It was held right on the playing floor at one of the arenas. They served dinner and there were a few speeches & awards. It was an excellent feed (an excellent meal). There were around 200 people there. We were a bit worried that we would be there all night as there seemed to be only 5 servers but they did a great job and we were finished within a couple of hours. Tyler received the All Star Goalie award. What an honour!
Tomorrow it's the gold medal games for both Kyle & Tyler. Then we are going whale watching with Kyles team. I have been to Newfoundland many times and have never seen a whale so I'm hoping this time I'll be lucky. And, of course, I'm hoping the boys will have a bit of luck and win the gold medals.
