We had the morning to explore Airlie Beach. I was a wee bit tired after my night out but Vic & I walked to town and checked out the beach, some shops and had lunch. Airlie Beach is basically a tourist town that is one of the hot spots on the East coast. It is backpacker paradise. Vic got several bites at some point (I think at our BBQ in the park) and they seem to be getting bigger, itchier and redder. He looks like some of the contestants on the TV show "Survivor". It was very hot again so we just had to stop for a cold one overlooking the yacht club. We saw some cockatoos in a tree overlooking the man made lagoon at the side of the beach for swimming. The "real" beach has jellyfish so they made a beach for swimming that is netted to stop the jellyfish from coming in.
In the afternoon we took a shuttle bus to the airport which is 10 minutes away but took 1 1/2 hours because we stopped at every freaking hotel along the way. However, we did see a whole bunch of kangaroos along the way. Unfortunately my camera was away and I didn't get any pics but it was very cool! The airport staff were very efficient and we were on the plane in no time. We flew to Brisbane and then had a 2 hour bus ride to Byron Bay - a "hippie" paradise on the coast. My teen years were in "hippie" times so this would, hopefully, be a nice "trip" down memory lane so to speak.
We we were knackered by the time we got yo Byron Bay at 9:30 so decided just to get pizza and stay in our room to rest up for hippy heaven.
