I did it! I managed to be the first one up for the entire holiday. I have enjoyed many mornings updating my blog while everyone else was still sawing logs. I can't express how wonderful this holiday has been. Paul & Claudia have gone above and beyond to show us a great time and instill some Mexican culture in us.
Today was a beach day. We just wanted to lounge around, walk the beach and enjoy the sun & surf on our last day here in Cancun. It's amazing how the locals enjoy the beach. Some rent a table and chairs while others are so innovative. They make do with whatever they have - wood sticks holding up pashminas, towels or whatever is at hand for shade. They all huddle under whatever shade they can find in nooks and crannies on the beach. They have bags of ice in their coolers and fill them with cervezas, pop or whatever they want to drink. Potato chips, doritos, and various snacks are bountiful. They enjoy the beach to the fullest. The tourist areas are another story. Tourists are pampered and they enjoy chairs with umbrellas and waiters delivering their mixed drinks.
Today on our walk we saw an amazing girl on some contraption with a hose attached to the exhaust of a seadoo that launched her above the water where she did tricks like flips and various other contortions with her body. It was a Circe de Soleil moment.
After topping up our tans we came home and had cocktails. A neighbour, Lordes, dropped by and we had an interesting conversatio about health and the state of the world. Then it was Mexican night which consisted of arrancheria steak, rojas con cream, smashed potatoes, guacomole (of course) and refried beans. Delicioso!!! The evening included a fireworks display for us (which has actually happened every night at 9:30). The boys made me do a tequila shot to cap off the vacation. Yuck!
The day was hot & humid again and despite the tequila shot, it was the perfect ending to a perfect holiday.
In the wee hours of the morning it was adios to our amigos and tour guides, Paul & Claudia, who truly made this an unforgettable vacation!
