How could we have improved on the first half of the week I hear you ask. Well, let me fill you in.
The day out on the boat or the 'Black Sheep' as she's fondly referred to as, was fantastic. I felt like a celebrity lazing out, fully reclined on the cool white leather, in the sunshine. We anchored up next to the pier at Cowes, Phillip
Island and immediately lit the Barbie and cracked open the ice cold beers. We bobbed around happily in the glittering water
eating our strawberries dipped in chocolate sauce ;) until it was time to whizz back to the harbour.
On Thursday, Peter was dragged into work to deliver a lecture to some unwilling students ha ha, so Adds and I jumped a train into the city to check out some of the commissioned graffiti in the back streets. We then took a ride on a local tram and wandered around, people watching, in St Kilda. Luckily we stumbled upon Acland St which is a luxurious street full of the most delectable cake shops I have ever encountered. Needless to say, we spent a good half hour perusing before we picked our perfect match, and perfect matches they were!
We met Peter outside the city that afternoon and drove to Phillip Island, this time we had penguin fever. As we arrived at Penguin Parade, we were offered an upgrade. Much to our delight, we were treated to a private tour with our own park ranger. We settled on the beach and watched as hundreds of these beautiful little animals braved the width of the beach in order to return to their respective burrows after being out at sea for days. Adds was pretty happy when one of the penguins picked him out of the crowd as the 'approachable human' and walked over his foot. We were then shuffled along to another section of the beach where we watched the penguins eating, snoozing or doing what comes naturally to them.......!!!!!!!!!!!!
The following day was a bright and early start and we drove to Lilydale airfield to finally experience Peters piloting skills! The sky was blue and the sun was out, unfortunately the wind was up too which made for some interesting turbulence in a small 4 seater plane.......read, Liz bit all her nails off! So, up we went for a practice circuit and when it was clear I wasn't going to make a mess of the cream furry seats we took off for a longer flight over the Dandenongs (mountains), stopping for a coffee (as you do) in Tooradin before returning to the airfield with a clean, unused sick bag. All in all this was one of the best experiences (if not the best) of Australia. Top that Sydney.....!
That night was fairly relaxed, Peter went out to watch the football and we cooked dinner for Caroline and chatted over plenty of glasses of wine.
Saturday saw a turn for the worse in the weather, ie pretty Yorkshire, so what else to do in the rain but go into the Yarra Valley for some wine tasting. The four of us visited three different wineries and tasted lots (read, s*** loads) of delicious wine, and even cheese in one place. Caroline came home with around seven bottles (I lost count) but she's just been promoted and is allowed to treat herself for at least two months we decided.
Adds and I decided to make a small offering in attempt to pay the guys back for everything by cooking up a huge lasagne with garlic bread and salad, it seemed to go down pretty well, either that or they are incredibly polite people. We sat and nattered for a while and then retired to the living room for some serious movie time.
Now, on to today. After being treated (once again) to an amazing breakfast out we all spent the day filling time until the rugby game in the evening. This consisted of a shopping centre (yay) followed by a drive up Mount Dandenong to check out the brilliant views of the city and a wander round the most amazing sweet shop ever. Onto the rugby at AAMI Park, England v Australia. The atmosphere was electric, so much fun. We had a couple of hilarious England supporters from Lancashire in front of us, complete with Peter Kay accents and the loudest granny in Australia behind us cursing every move made by the England team. I thought she was going to wet herself out of excitement at one point and felt relieved that Adds would probably bare the brunt of the dribbles had that happened. Basically Australia kicked our ass, the rain and the ref didn't help matters but all being fair, the Aussies deserved to win.
Now we are back at the house for our last night with her (the bed) and Melbourne is almost over. Just two days left, tomorrow we are heading to stay with some Aussie guys we met in Peru, Heath and Leigh. I'm pretty sure Tuesday will be a stinking hangover day, sun is due to come back out tomorrow too, hooray.
Next update will probably be from Sydney.
Bye for now but first I'd like to wish Daddy Morton a VERY happy birthday for tomorrow (1st Nov), love you.
Love to all
Oopps almost forgot, happy birthday Joe too
