Getting to PP airport was interesting. For the first time I went through the Red Light District, it was sad to see row upon row of girls just waiting for "clients". They were mostly sitting outside so called Karaoke places - It makes you wonder about all the other KTV places that you see in the provinces.
The plane left Phnom Penh on time and we arrived in 1 hour 20 mins instead of 2 hours!! We landed at midnight and arrived at our hotel with Visa stamped etc etc at 1am. Moral of the story - arrive in the middle of the night on a plane that is going on somewhere else and only has about 20 people getting off. It has to have been the easiest plane journey I have ever had. You also see the city at it's best.
This morning we explored the Pagoda just behind the hotel - Shwedagon Pagoda has to be one of the most impressive I have visited. Instead of just climbing steps (why are they always at the top of a hill) you go up through a covered arcade that is made of teakwood (it is under the green roof). Stunning and dry.
Lunch was delicious but we were trapped at a fine dining restaurant in the local park. Raining cats and dogs doesn't actually describe rain in Asia- tigers and elephants would be better!!
In the afternoon we set off with hotel umbrellas to find the railway station - which we managed to miss several times but eventually found only to be told that there is no sleeper train at this season!! We are suspicious as Ben knows someone who had a ticket for it last week - we will investigate tomorrow.
Great evening eating curry and exploring the city.

Chris & Rog Those photos look amazing what a beautiful country. You weren't the only one enjoying 'summer rain' I got soaked yesterday doing the horses & the dogs were just bundles of wet sogginess yuk.
