nd October: We arrived at Hervey bay in the early eve and had a BBQ by the really really long pier with the rest of the Ozbus.
rd October: Up early ready to start our Fraser Island trip. We met the other 3 guys that wiould be in our 4WD. Sorted out food, drink and equipment and then got on the raod. Mike drove first and got us on to the ferry over to the island. Then it was a bumpy ride from the ferry terminal to our base camp including driving along the beach at almost high tide. Relaxed at the camp and on the beach adn then cooked dinner...a BBQ what else!
th October: Up early again so that we could beat the tides. Drove north along the beach to see Indian Head, the volcanic plug the sand island has formed around. We then had a 45+ min walk along the beach to the Champagne Pools, the only salt water you can swim in on the island. It was then back to base camp for the evening.
th October: We packed up our tents and set off in our 4WD for the last day. This time we drove south and headed inland to Lake Mackensie, a huge freshwater lake providing amazing views. After a swim and a sunbathe we had to pile back into the truck and head to the ferry.
Fraser Island self drive and camping was awesome and definatly worth it. Only regret was not going to Lake Wabby.
