Hey everyone! What a few days we've had since our last blog! got to dalat after a pretty full days travelling, the usual driver who speaks no english with questionable judgement on overtaking around blind corners, but u have no idea quite whats happening when he randomly tells u to get off the bus in the middle of nowhere, luckily another one came along about an hour later.
Dalat was pretty cold and being some festival apparently (nothing of which we couild find except the full hostels and raised prices!) In Dalat they have this famous group called the 'easy riders' (who have extreemly cool jackets) and they're like a moterbike guide/taxi service who do tours. We did a full day round dalat with Xian and Mr Tom and loved it so much we agreed to let them take us on a three day tour from Dalat to Nha Trang. It was pretty expensive so we opted for 3 days instead of 5! (By the way any birthday donations for either of us would be highly appricated!! just email us for our account numbers!!) But it was so brilliant. Started of at 8 in the morning - our massive bags strapped to the backs of their bikes so u could lean against them. not quite as comfortable as an 'armchair' as Xian promised but our bums survived! It was utterly amazing. Instead of being completely on the tourist trail, brushing shoulders with travellers doing the smae route, same activities etc. We saw the real Vietnam from the back of a bike! The guys (Mr Tom being a Vietnam War Veteran) had amazing engliah and a vast knowledge of their country. They took us to silk worm farms, silk factories, waterfalls in the jungle, tiny minority villages who spoke a different vietnamese dialect. We saw people harvesting rice, drying rice, tapioca and cashew nuts on the roads, elephants, all in the beautiful and pretty much untouched mountains of Vietnam. It was crazy only seeing one other Westerner for 3 days as he was with another easy rider. We were like celebrities being so far off the tourist trial people stare at you, many not having ever seen a white person before. A little boy burst into tears and ran miles away because they were just so shocked to see us on the backs of the bikes. Another man drove so fast to try and catch up with gregs bike, taking his hand off to wave and crashed into a bush! v funny and wish id seen it! Everywhere we went people stoped to take phtotos! So crazy!! Xian and Mr Tom found these happenings absolutely hysterical and told endless stories of people so desperate to go out of there way to see tourists! We went to one farmers hut to see how rice wine was made, tasted it and it was like drinking petrol, 50% proof apparently and the old guy who makes it drinks half a litre a day! go him!
Weve now waved goodbye to our bikers which was sad! Stayed in Nha Trang for a night and were off on an overnight bus trip to Hoi An tongiht! WEnt to some awesome Mud baths last night and had a dip as the sun was setting and the stars came up! wikid fun! Still loving every minute!! Much love to everyone, keep us posted on ure goings on, xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
