Lisa's Big Adventure
Emma and I boarded our British Airways flight, bound for Frankfurt at Heathrow and just over an hour later, were touching down at Frankfurt au main airport. By the time we'd worked out the train system and checked into our hotel (located opposite the main train station and a ten minute stroll to the centre of town) it was 3pm ish so we immediately headed out into the centre of town. We decided to do a museum that afternoon and managed to spend just over an hour in the modern art museum. The museum had a great exhibition on of items that Andy Warhol had collected and kept. Some of the great items there included shoes once belonging to Ginger Rogers, a Christmas card from Paul McCartney with him dressed up as santa, books Warhol read as a child, plus so many photos, tickets, letters and other correspondence. It was highly interesting and a very worthwhile way to spend part of our afternoon. We then went for a walk and found ourselves at the Christmas markets (our main reason for going to Frankfurt) where we browsed and drank warm apple wine. The lights and general atmosphere of the markets was just wonderful.
Saturday was a horrible day so we decided to hit another museum, spending a few hours gazing at artworks from all different countries and different periods. Saw some wonderful works by artists I love including Picasso, Matisse, Cezanne and Van Gogh. By the time we'd finished there, the rain had temporarily eased off so we wandered back across the river to find some good german food (Bratwurst and rhinwurst) and had another look at the markets, this time buying some wonderful decorations for family members and ourselves.
We woke to a beautiful day on Sunday and after checking out of our hotel, walked up to the botanic gardens and had a quick wander around there before heading back into the town centre for one last dash around the markets, and more decoration buying. By that time, we had to get on a train to get back to the airport, and officially end our lovely weekend. I arrived back in London feeling nice and Christmassy and laden down with lots of Christmas decorations.
